Our Rabbi

Rabbi Danny Gottlieb

Rabbi Danny Gottlieb comes to us from Toronto, Canada, where he served the Canadian Reform Jewish community for more than 30 years, as a synagogue educator, director of the Canadian region of the Union for Reform Judaism, and as rabbi of Temple Kol Ami in Thornhill, Ontario.  He brings with him a love of Jewish life and Jewish learning, and a strong commitment to the synagogue as a sacred community.
“There are many institutions in Jewish life that make use of Jews, but it is only in the synagogue that Jews are made, their souls nourished, and their identities fashioned.  The synagogue is a place of connection—to the men, women and children who become an extended family, and to the Holy One of Blessing.” – Rabbi Danny Gottlieb
Here is Rabbi Gottleib’s column from the Jan.-Feb. issue of the BIJ Bulletin.
Rabbi Gottlieb’s gifts are felt in each of the three pillars of our congregation:
He brings a special warmth to our Bet Tefilah (House of Prayer) through his unique leadership style and musicianship.   His commitment to social justice, along with his dynamic and creative teaching skills enhance our Bet Midrash (House of Study), encouraging students, both young and old, to engage in the joy of Jewish learning. Our Bet Knesset (House of Communal Gathering) is blessed by his devotion to community, sense of humor and the warmth and openness he extends to each of us.
Rabbi Gottlieb lives in Pacifica with his beloved, Ricki Weintraub, and their dog, Dinah.  We are pleased to welcome them to Congregation Beth Israel Judea
