FAQ’s
Q: What is B3?
A: B3 is our Religious School Program. B3 stands for Beth Israel Judea + B‘nai Emunah = B‘yachad [together]. It represents the combined Jewish education program for congregations Beth Israel Judea and B’nai Emunah. Our theme this year is The World Stands on Three Things: Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Chasadim (Torah, Worship and Acts of Loving Kindness). In addition to the Sunday morning “classroom” component, students help lead our monthly Shabbat Shelanu Family-Friendly dinner and service and participate in holiday celebrations throughout the year.
As we continue to experience Judaism outside the classroom, we offer programs off-site on Sunday mornings. Check our school calendar for dates and locations of our field trips and other “off-site” special programs.
Q: When does the program take place?
A: Jewish Studies programming for all students, pre-kindergarten through 10th grade takes place on Sunday mornings from 10:00am – 12:00pm. We take a mid-morning break for a school-wide snack, and finish each day with an all-school shira (song) session. Parents can also purchase coffee and snacks from our Micha Mocha Café (proceeds benefit all our students who attend Jewish camping programs).
Hevruta Hebrew, our small-group Hebrew learning program takes place on Sunday morning from 9:00-10:00am each week. Students usually begin their Hebrew learning in 4th grade, although some have started earlier. We group students by Hebrew abilities into small groups of 3-4 kids for more individualized learning.
Confirmation students in grade 10 also meet with Rabbi Gottlieb for ½ the year, during the week, starting in January. The Confirmation service is led by these students and takes place around Shavuot.
Q: How do I sign up or register?
A: Registration is completely online (https://bij.org/events-donations/registration)! As in the past, the calendar for the year is available online. You can even download a copy into your own online calendar, so you will always have the most up-to-date information!
Q: What if I have more questions?
A: Please contact Ricki Weintraub our Head of Religious School with any questions that you may have. She can be reached at 805.235.7171 or rweintraub@bij.org.
