Welcome to Congregation Beth Israel Judea!

From our Mission Statement: Congregation Beth Israel Judea’s multigenerational, participatory community welcomes all Jews and interfaith families along with their partners and friends. Please join us!

The congregation is sustained by its excellent staff and generous volunteers in a wide range of committees and projects. In addition, synagogue organizations such as the Sisterhood and the Jewish War Veterans Post, and a variety of chavurot, enrich our cultural and service options.

Join us for Shabbat or an event that interests you to meet the members and the Rabbi. If you’d like more information, we can send you a packet of information including a newsletter, calendar of upcoming events, schedule of services and religious school brochures.

MEMBER TESTIMONIALS

Some of our members share why they joined BIJ and why they have stayed:

We came to BIJ for the convenience – close to our home and schools, easy parking. We have stayed – 14 years – for the community. The people are warm, caring and inclusive. Everyone is genuinely welcome on his or her own terms and can make a difference. Belonging to BIJ has enriched the lives of all five members of our family. – Reeva Safford

At one of the first Friday night services we attended, our boys started getting restless and noisy. We started to walk out with them, but Rabbi Morris started to laugh. He came over, took one of the boys in his arms and said to the rest of the congregation, “BIJ is everyone, and the kids need to feel comfortable here.” We decided then and there to join. It has been nearly 40 years. – Myra and Alfred Herpe

BIJ is deep within my heart. Since our family joined BIJ 13 years ago, I converted to Judaism, celebrated two family B’nai Mitzvah, and found cherished friends… I love to walk into the sanctuary when the sun shines through the windows, and I find a great sense of peace on Shabbat mornings. – Lin Stillman

I like BIJ because of the great stuff we get to do as a family, like First Friday Shabbat, Sukkot and the Purim Carnival.– Elias Albertson (age 7)

I wasn’t raised Jewish and didn’t know a lot at the beginning; I didn’t know the songs or prayers, why some holidays are celebrated, and the meanings of rituals and symbols. But I’ve learned about the faith alongside my kids at BIJ…Over the years, our relationship with BIJ has deepened and the people who we have met are like family. My kids have formed lasting relationships through religious school, and we have done the same by participating in synagogue activities. – Ann Comoglio

I was reticent at first to enter a Reform synagogue, being an observant Jew. Not only did I feel extremely welcome at BIJ, but I have also found the community respectful of my Kosher dietary issues. – Dr. Nathan Blau

It can be intimidating for a single, shy person to connect with a spiritual community, or to walk into a room full of strangers and stay long enough to make friends. From the first moment I stepped into BIJ, this warm, intellectual and spirited community has enchanted and inspired me. – Marilyn Wacks
