In Spring 2008, Committee was “Re-formed.” We have a new name, inspired by the Torah portion of Terumah, read on the Shabbat just before this went to press. The portion focuses on the requirements for the Tabernacle which the Israelites will carry in the desert. Included is the verse (Exodus 25, 8): “And they shall make me a holy place and I shall dwell within their midst.” As we know that our God does not have a physical manifestation, why is a physical place needed? That holy place is for us, the community, so that we may gather together in celebration of the Divine within each of us. That holy place is BIJ, and our desire as a committee is to help elevate and enhance the spiritual in our communal home.
