8/15 Erev Shabbat Service 'Awakening to the Joys of Jewish-ing' with Special Musical Guest Rabbi Jack Gabriel

Rabbi Jack Gabriel

7:30 PM.  Everyone is welcome to be a part of our musical Erev Shabbat service. This service is lead by Rabbi Rosalind and Student Cantor David Morgenstern.

This Shabbat will be a very special service featuring Rabbi Jack Gabriel (Reb Ya'acov), who has taught music and mysticism internationally since the 1980s. He is one of Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi's last private ordinees in 1990. Currently the rabbi of Congration Shir Shalom in Sonoma, he formerly served as a pulpit rabbi in Colorado for 17 years.

Reb Ya'acov has had the joy of singing with our Rabbi Rosalind and has played with many other cool musicians. This past June, he was backed up by the Jerry Garcia Band at the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa. He has also performed with Rabbi Shlomo Caleback, Cantor Doug Cotler, Peter Yarrow and Rabbi Shefa Gold.

In addition, he's recorded songs with Kermit the Frog of the Muppets! One of his songs was recorded by Peggy Lee as a follow up to her hit "Fever." Johnny Mathis, Joni Mitchell, Bette Midler have attended his performances and we hope you will too!

Scheduled to join us for Erev Shabbat Nachamu, the Shabbat of Comfort, Reb Ya'acov will lead us in songs that celebrate and envision a joyful future. That night is also Tu B'Av, the holiday for lovers (a kind fo Jewish Sadie Hawkin's Day) that is often forgotten in modern times, but is considered one of the happiest days in the entire Jewish Calendar.
