10:00AM - 12:00PM
Don your baseball cap and come to BIJ on Sunday for a glimpse at some of the greatest figures in Jewish sports history! And see the world champion knife thrower (also Jewish) in action.
Local historian and sports aficionado Frank Winston (founder of the Northern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and promoter of Bay Area Jewish Heritage Nights at AT & T Park and the Oracle Arena) will touch on the life stories and accomplishments of athletes, team owners and journalists of Jewish descent.
The list covered will include baseball greats Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax, world boxing champion Barney Ross, star quarterback Sid Luckman, broadcaster Howard Cosell, SF Chronicle editor Art Rosenbaum, and Olympic medalists Mark Spitz and Sasha Cohen. Frank will also bring to light a number of lesser-known figures from the sporting world who have made important behind the scenes contributions to sports history.
As a special bonus, meet international Jewish sports celebrity Rick Lemberg, world champion knife thrower and resident of Montara, who frequently appears on television and in venues such as Las Vegas and Marine World, where he recently performed before a live audience of 4,000 people. Rick will answer questions and entertain us with a demonstration of his amazing knife throwing prowess!
